It's the Y2K Fashion for me! Late 90's/2000's Fashion is making a comeback and I'm here for it

Hear me out, I know I’m not the only one that noticed a lot of influencers/celebrities on different social media platforms decked out in halter tops, low rise bootcut jeans, and chunky sneakers or wedges. It seems like 2000’s fashion is making a comeback and I’m here for it. An article I read on The TrendSpotter called “ How to Rock Y2K Fashion in 2021 ” highlighted some trendy staple pieces and wardrobes to add or build your own Y2K collection.

Some of the popular brands during that time and are making a comeback now are:

  • Baby Phat
  • Enyce
  • Von Dutch
  • Rocawear
  • Juicy Couture
  • Tommy Hilfiger
  •  Sean John
  • Apple Bottoms

I know some 90's babies are thrilled to see a resurgence of these 90's/2000's trends coming back. This definitely brings me back to a time when I used to dress up like Britney Spears and dance around my house playing her Stronger Album on repeat on my cd player. Now as an Adult I have picked up a few pieces of my own to build the ultimate Y2K wardrobe. Plus, I may have some of my old outfits from the 2000s that surprisingly still fit.

Here is the Ultimate Y2K Starter Pack

Wrap/Tie Shirt
Wrap/Tie shirts are used as a top or outer garment to go over a dress to give dress it up a bit, just like in this monochromatic look pictured on the right.

Shades and Statement Earrings/Necklaces
These Staple accessories are must-haves to add to your Y2K wardrobe. The bling on these accessories makes your outfit pop.

Denim on Denim
This Inspo came from Britney and Justin's all Denim outfits at the Grammy's. Denim on Denim is a powerful look that can be chic and casual. Denim pieces are great to add to your wardrobe.

Headbands, Scarves, and Hats
Headbands and scarves also great accessories to go on your head to help give your hairstyle and outfit an extra touch. Sometimes you can Pair a matching headband or scarf that's the same color as your outfit brings the whole look together. You can also use a giant scarf as a belt to hook into the loops of your jeans or skirt to jazz it up a bit.

Corset and Butterfly Tops
Corset tops can be worn as your main top or would look great over another top as well to jazz your outfit up and give it some more style. Many celebrities like Destiny's Child, Ashley Tisdale, and Britney Spears have worn these tops back in the 2000s. These Tops are back in style now and are so cute! These tops definitely show off your amazing curves. Pair these tops with some cute low-rise jeans or a jean skirt and you are good to go.

Low Rise Boot Cut and Flare Jeans
I know you all have heard Nelly's Apple Bottom song. You cannot forget to add a few pairs of Low Rise Boot cut and flare Jeans to your Y2K collection these jeans are a must and let's not forget to add the boots with the fur and a cute statement belt with them.

Velour Sweatsuits
These are not your average sweatsuits. Velour Sweatsuits are not only comfy but are very cute when you are on the go but still want to look good from head to toe. Brands such as Baby Phat and Juicy Couture sold the best velour sweatsuits back in the 2000s. Let's not forget the Cheetah Girls wore matching velour sweatsuits in different colors and I must say they rocked it.

Fur Coats
We all know that fur coats have been timeless outer garments worn in most decades, and the 2000s was one of them. Celebrities like Lil Kim, Eve, Missy Elliot, and many more have worn Fur coats to jazz up their look. If you are going somewhere special and need a chic outer garment a pairing your outfit with a fluffy fur coat is the way to go and will definitely give off bad and boujee vibes.

There you have it. Your Y2K Starter pack is complete. Don't forget to pair some Timberlands, Air Force 1's, or boots with your look to give it a finishing touch. Now go out in your Y2K outfits and strut like you mean it!
